Position Information


Location: Coquitlam Campus

Salary Range: $71,846 - $115,129 annually. Placement on the faculty salary scale is based on education, professional certification, and experience, in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

The Opportunity

The faculty member in this position is responsible for coordinating and facilitating experiential activities that enhance faculty delivery of experiential sessions and provide assessment, development, and remediation activities for students in Health Science programs, including clinical practice.

WHAT IT TAKES

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Liaise with Program Coordinators, Health Sciences Experiential Coordinator, BSN Director, and Manager Experiential Learning Operations to assess education and operational requirements for remediation or enhanced experiential learning opportunities for students.
  • Design and deliver programs that augment experiential learning, including sessions that review, enhance, or remediate students' skills.
  • Work with individual students to develop skills for satisfactory clinical performance, upon referral.
  • Assist faculty in supervising and evaluating skill acquisition in laboratory or simulated settings.
  • Provide feedback to clinical faculty on assessment and remediation strategies.
  • Design evaluative processes to measure outcomes of educational activities.
  • Attend relevant meetings such as HS Council and others as needed.
  • Assist with assessing students or remediation needs in practicum environments, depending on availability and resources.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean, if time permits.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Current RPN or RN registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Master's Degree required; Doctorate/PhD preferred in nursing or related field.
  • Willingness to complete CCSNE (within 2 years) and CHSE (within 3 years) credentials.
  • At least five years of recent (past five years) post-secondary teaching experience in a clinical health program.
  • Recent experience in teaching experiential sessions for health professional students.
  • Minimum of five years of clinical practice, with diverse practice area experience preferred.
  • Expertise in skills related to BSN, PNUR, and HCA programs.
  • Ability to assist students with accommodation needs and understanding of universal design for learning.
  • Strong assessment, planning, and management skills, with leadership qualities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Knowledge of health sciences programs at Douglas College.
  • Self-motivated, creative, and committed to developing entry-level health sciences graduates.
  • Understanding of cultural safety and humility in education and psychiatric nursing practice.
Additional Information

The Faculty of Health Sciences seeks a Coordinator for Experiential Learning, starting September 1, 2025, for an initial one-year term, with potential extensions up to three years. The role includes four sections of time release for the 2025-2026 academic year.
