The incumbent will perform routine tasks required to administer and execute health and safety and human resource programs including but not limited to training and certifications, onboarding, and health & safety program administration, site inspections, and fleet administration.The Health & Safety Specialist will also assist with various HR departmental initiatives and programs, as well as serve on project teams as needed.
Job Duties:
- Act as point of contact for employee enquiries on mandatory training and certifications.
- Work closely with managers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the department’s training needs for each position.
- Facilitate and/or schedule training and validate/maintain training records to be in line with required KPI’s.
- Provide on-site training to foremen and/or staff.
- Maintain online HSMS, add/remove users, create and/or amend forms.
- Track weekly inspections and follow up with Foreman when required; site inspections, safety talks, fleet vehicle inspections. When required, notify Construction Supervisors of missed or incomplete inspections.
- Update monthly H&S KPI’s; training, incidents, inspection submissions.
- Monthly workplace inspections of Carp and Canotek; First Aid kits, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, AED.
- Conduct weekly job site inspections, review inspection findings with GC, send inspection report to Project Managers.
- Schedule monthly calls; Lar-Mex Safety Group, Supervisor Call, JHSC. Prepare and send out monthly call safety talk.
- Take JHSC meeting minutes and post JHSC notes on H&S boards (Carp + Canotek).Prepare incident management forms such as WSIB and aid with modified duties and RTW notes.
- Assist with new hire onboarding orientation.
- Stay up to date on all compliance with employment regulations, including updating the H&S Program, SOP’s and MSDS sheets annually.Avoid legal challenges by complying with legal requirements.
- Maintain and enforce company and employee confidentiality.
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
- Accomplish organizational mission by completing related tasks as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- 2 years of experience in the field of H&S, with experience in the construction industry an asset.
- Desire to work as a team with a result driven approach.
- Familiar with employment/labor/safety laws related to construction/industrial regulations.
- Resourceful, problem-solving attitude and thorough knowledge of H&S procedures and policies.
Required Skills:
- Bilingualism French and English is an asset.
- Good analytical skills with a focus on providing solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, ethics, and cultural awareness.
- Hold a valid driver’s license for the purpose of site visits, and assistance with fleet vehicle coordination.
Education:
- Poste secondary education.
- Certificate in occupational health and safety.
