The Health & Safety Manager is a highly autonomous, hands-on operational leader responsible for organizing and managing the day-to-day activities of the department, setting priorities, planning resources, monitoring execution, and ensuring commitments and required processes are consistently delivered. Working closely with Operations and business unit leaders, this position leads and develops the safety team, translates organizational objectives into practical departmental plans, and maintains a visible presence in the field to understand operational realities and support effective safety performance.

  • Monitor safety performance, analyze trends and risks, and provide recommendations to drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with operations leaders to deliver practical safety support and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Maintain a strong field presence by engaging employees, assessing risks, and promoting safe work practices.
  • Oversee the Safety Management System, including policies, procedures, audits, inspections, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead safety training, employee engagement, WCB and injury management programs, contractor prequalifications (COR, ISNetworld, ComplyWorks), and National Safety Code compliance.

  • Proven leadership experience developing teams, managing performance, setting priorities, and driving results through others.
  • Strong ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and lead multiple initiatives to successful completion with minimal supervision.
  • Experience developing strategic plans, managing resources, and delivering on departmental goals, performance measures, and business objectives.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills with the ability to partner effectively with Operations, business leaders, and senior leadership.
  • Extensive field-based experience with a practical understanding of safety requirements in active construction and operational environments.
