Job summary

Leon's Furniture Limited is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to administer policies, training and guidance for the Distribution Centre and region, ensuring compliance with OH&S laws and WCB policy. You will help develop and implement prevention initiatives and report monthly on safety metrics.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and champions health and safety activities and training for the Distribution Centre and region.
• Reviews safety programs to determine training needs and prepares a training matrix and schedule.
• Coordinates incident investigations and follows up with corrective actions.
• Promotes a proactive safety strategy and cost containment for all claims.
• Assists in managing WCB disability claims and modified return to work programs.
• Ensures adherence to safety standards, conducts monthly inspections and audits, and assigns corrective actions.
• Monitors and evaluates occupational health and safety programs for regulatory compliance.
• Coordinates Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings.
• Produces monthly reporting.

Job description

This position is responsible for administering health and safety policies and procedures, training and advice to the Distribution Centre and region regarding health and safety issues, legislation and occupational policy. Overall, you will assist in the development and implementation of occupational health and safety prevention initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and champions health and safety activities and training for the Distribution Centre and region.
• Reviews and analyzes functional safety activities and programs to determine training requirements for safety; Prepares a training matrix and schedule to ensure mandatory training needs meet legislative compliance.
• Coordinates incident investigations and provides effective follow-up for corrective actions.
• Promotes a proactive safety strategy and ensures worker safety and cost containment for all claims.
• Assists in managing WCB disability claims and modified return to work programs.
• Ensures adherence to regulated and documented safety standards, including conducting monthly inspections, hazard analysis, and periodic audits as well as identifying and assigning corrective actions for workplace hazards noted during property inspections.
• Monitors and evaluates occupational health and safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable provincial regulations.
• Coordinates meetings and assists with Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
• Produces monthly reporting.

Requirements

• Enrolled in or completed OH&S certificate program; post-secondary education in business, human resources or related field are considered assets.
• Minimum of 3 years related experience.
• Knowledge of applicable OH&S and WCB policy.
• Motivated, well organized, and able to make sound decisions.
• Strong customer focus, results oriented, and able to work with multiple conflicting priorities and timelines.
