Job summary

A leading company in gold mining is looking for a Health and Safety professional to enhance the safety culture and compliance within their operations. Roles include auditing, training, and executing safety policy frameworks. Qualifications

  • 3 years' direct experience or 5 years with secondary diploma in health & safety.
  • Solid understanding of mining processes and related training.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

The Great Bear project is a development-stage asset located in the renowned and prolific Red Lake mining district, and represents one of the most exciting recent gold discoveries globally. The project has excellent potential to become a top-tier deposit that could support a large, long-life mine complex. Kinross’ comprehensive exploration and development program will aim to support the vision of a quality, high-grade, open-pit mine and a longer-term, sizeable underground mine.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Proactive identification, coordination, and implementation of initiatives to support a positive sustainability culture.
  • Assist in designing and communicating an annual plan for improving health and safety performance.
  • Collaborate with all departments to assess risks and opportunity assessments and ensure hazards and appropriate controls are incorporated into work programs.
  • Conduct audits, meetings, training and other activities designed to enhance health and safety awareness as prescribed by corporate policies and procedures.
  • Lead and assist with the development and implementation of health and safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and training.
  • Facilitate incident investigations and ensure investigations are conducted in a fair and transparent manner following company procedures for incident investigations.
  • Oversee training activities.
  • Liaise with Occupational Health and Safety Committees.
  • Promote safety initiatives.
  • Organize, develop, review, and revise company policies and procedures.

  • In conjunction with site leadership, support interactions with regulatory agencies.
  • Work in a healthy work environment with full support, cooperation, and commitment to satisfy our operation's goal of being accident-free.
  • Comply with federal and provincial acts and regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Support a work environment that is aligned with Kinross' Safeground principles.
  • Adhere to all relevant Great Bear policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as designed.
Education and Experience
  • Post-secondary education in a business or health & safety related program with 3 years’ of directly related experience. Alternately, an individual with a Secondary School Graduation Diploma and a minimum of 5 years of directly related experience may be considered.
  • Solid understanding of surface and underground mining and mining process, and related training requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants.
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental considerations.
  • Complywith all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all company dealings.
  • Excellent computer skills with experience using Intelex or other incident reporting softwareand Microsoft Office products.
  • Possess a valid G driver's license.

This position is an 8X6 schedule, and is based in Red Lake, Ontario.
