The Role

An opportunity has arisen for Band 2 Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) within our hospital wards across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated HCSWs with effective communication skills to join our friendly teams. In return, we offer ongoing learning opportunities to support your learning and development. Full induction will be provided to all new starters.

You will be required to assist in delivering a high standard of nursing care to patients. These posts require candidates with good problem‑solving and listening skills, together with a compassionate and caring nature. Previous experience within an NHS, hospital or care setting would be advantageous.

Full availability to cover a varied rotational shift pattern is essential, including both day and night shifts. Candidates must be able to commit to the required shift pattern, including weekends and public holidays where required.

Positions will be based across the following NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde locations:

  • Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake.
  • Observe and report any change in the condition of the patient and communicate this verbally to the nurse in charge.
  • Assist patients who are unable to self‑care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies.
  • Carry out and assist with minor investigatory procedures, e.g. urinalysis, faecal occult blood testing and urine collections, as required. Report all findings to the trained nurse.
  • Participate in and assist with the updating and completion of accurate patient documentation as necessary, e.g. fluid charts and care rounding charts, and file documents appropriately when required.
  • Be responsible for the cleaning and tidying of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding cupboards for the storage of controlled drugs and medicines, and report any defects or areas of concern to the nurse in charge.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of supplies from central and clinical stores, excluding medicines.
