Health Care Aide (Part-time)

Job Purpose

The HCA performs care tasks under supervision, assisting residents with personal care as per Care Plans, ensuring safe, competent care within scope of practice, and adhering to policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Monitoring and Assessment: Contribute to Care Plan development, report health information, monitor vital signs, and observe changes.
2. Care Plan Implementation: Assist with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, housekeeping, and resident belongings management.
3. Documentation: Record health information accurately, report incidents, and complete required documentation.
4. Professional Responsibilities: Participate in evaluations, meetings, orientation, and communicate effectively with residents and families.
5. Education and Safety: Engage in ongoing training, promote safety, and report hazards.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent, with completion of a recognized Health Care Aide program.
• Registration with the Alberta HCA Registry.
• Current First Aid, CPR, Medication Assistance, Food Safe, and Criminal Record Checks.
• Experience in supportive living and mental health preferred.

Skills and Attributes

• Effective communication, compassion, attention to detail, and teamwork skills.
• Knowledge of safety standards and the Protection for Persons in Care Act.
• Basic computer skills.

Work Conditions

Prolonged walking and standing, lifting up to 22 kg, shift work including weekends and holidays, and working in residential environments with potential exposure to health risks.

Compensation

Hourly rate ranges from $24.70 to $26.51, based on experience and qualifications. The position is fixed-term, 20 hours/week, for 12 months, covering maternity leave.
