Job summary

Carewest at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre in Calgary seeks a Health Care Aide (HCA) to join the Chronic Complex Care program.

This temporary part-time role involves providing ongoing client care under the supervision of the Director of Care and collaborating with an interprofessional team. The HCA will observe and report changes in client status, and assist with daily living activities while delivering prescribed medications per policy.

Qualifications

• English language ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
• Graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program.
• Active and current registration with CLHA required.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing client care as part of the interprofessional team.
• Observe, monitor and report on client status to RN/LPN.
• Deliver prescribed medications accurately per policy and procedure.
• Maintain professional and ethical standards per Carewest policies.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides ongoing client care.

The HCA observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status. The HCA ensures that changes in client status are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This position delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure.

In keeping with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care and Carewest policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. Responsible for other related duties as required.

Program Summary

Chronic Complex Care – for adults living with a complex disease or life‑threatening illness. The prime populations are adults on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, as well as people who need specialized respiratory support.

Qualifications and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
• Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients.
• Active and current registration with CLHA required.
• Related experience in a health care facility is an asset.
• Program specific training/experience is an asset.
