Job summary

Carewest Innovative Healthcare seeks a Health Care Aide (HCA) at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre in Calgary. This temporary part-time role supports trauma-informed care, monitors client status, reports changes to the RN/LPN, and delivers prescribed medications as per policy.

Ideal candidates will have Alberta HCA program training, English communication skills, current CLHA registration, and experience with mental health, neuro conditions, and younger adults with chronic illnesses.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
  • Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients.
  • Active and current registration with CLHA required.
  • Related experience in a health care facility is an asset.
  • Program specific training/experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • This position delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure.
  • Observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition to RN and/or LPN.
  • Supports younger adults with chronic diseases and disabilities with trauma-informed care.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides ongoing client care. The HCA observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status. The HCA ensures that changes in client status are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).


This position delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure. This role requires a strong foundation in trauma-informed care and experience working with individuals with mental health diagnoses, responsive behaviors, and neurological conditions such as brain injury, spinal cord injury, and multiple sclerosis (MS). The HCA must also be adept at supporting the unique needs of a younger adult population living with chronic diseases and disabilities, often presenting with multifaceted and evolving care requirements.

Program Summary

EQuaL (Enabling Quality of Life) – for adults aged 18 to 64 who have disabilities related to a disease or condition, such as multiple sclerosis or a brain injury, currently requiring the full-time support of a continuing care centre.

  • Complex care needs of younger adults living with chronic disease and disabilities.
