Job summary

ATCO Energy Systems is seeking a Health and Safety Programs Advisor to support OHS initiatives across the Calgary/Edmonton operations. You will collaborate with multiple functions to strengthen health and safety programs, systems, and standards, and offer expert guidance on OHS requirements and best practices.

You will lead incident investigations, assist in injury management and modified work plans, and contribute to continuous improvement of the Health and Safety Management System through

Qualifications

Join a team committed to protecting people and strengthening workplace safety. The Health and Safety Programs Advisor is responsible for supporting health and safety initiatives that foster compliance, reduce risk, and promote continuous improvement across the organization.

Division: ATCO Energy Systems. Location: Calgary or Edmonton, AB.

As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with stakeholders to develop and enhance health and safety programs, systems, and standards, while providing expert advice on OHS requirements and best practices. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact through field engagement, incident investigation support, health and safety program delivery, and ongoing improvement of the Health and Safety Management System.

What You’ll Do

• Support the development, implementation and improvements of the Health and Safety Management System
• Collaborate with business functions and departments to anticipate, identify, and evaluate H&S related risks and determine practical solutions
• Assist in the development and rollout of health and safety initiatives
• Provide OHS subject matter expertise
• Consult and lead incident investigations, support injury management and modified work plans
• Support and/or participate in internal and external audits related to OHS management system conformity, COR Certification, Corporate Stewardship, and Sustainability performance reporting
• Support contractor management process
• Identify areas for Health and Safety improvements across the organization
• Audit contractor compliance with ATCO policies, OHS requirements, contractual H&S obligations
• Provide OHS subject matter expertise, consultation, and support the Fitness for Work Program.

What You’ll Bring

• Graduate or Undergraduate degree in a discipline, along with Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or other OHS designation/certification from a recognized national or international organization
• Minimum 5 - 7 years of industry (oil & gas,utility or large multi-faceted organization) experience in a corporate safety-related role.
• Experience developing Occupational Health and Safety Programs required
• Knowledge of OHS Act/Regulations, CSA Standards, other legislative requirements, applicable federal, provincial, and municipal regulations/legislation, industry standards, Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, and best practices
• Ability to monitor health and safety performance, analyze trends and provide recommendations on next steps
• Ability to work with other key business groups to develop training materials related to Health and Safety
• Experience with formal incident investigation methodology
• Proficient in Microsoft Office 0365 Applications, such as Word, Excel, Visio, and Power Point.
• Travel flexibility to support teams
• Safety-sensitive role with additional pre-employment requirements as identified in the Alcohol & Drug policy 6.2.3 Applicant Testing
• Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.
