The Environment, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment at all GoodLeaf facilities by developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs, policies, and procedures across the company and in compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires a strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, risk assessment, and accident prevention strategies to maintain compliance and foster a culture of safety, preferably with experience across Canada. The manager will also guide return-to-work procedures and work hazard analysis in collaboration with local Human Resources teams.
Role Responsibilities :
- Regulatory Compliance : Ensure facilities comply with local, provincial, and federal occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, WHMIS, WCB, Alberta Health, CNESST).
- Risk Assessment & Mitigation : Identify and review hazards, risks, and opportunities proactively, ensuring follow-up actions are implemented.
- Safety Training & Education : Develop and deliver safety training programs covering workplace safety, emergency response, hazardous materials, and PPE usage.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting : Conduct incident investigations, liaise with management and regulatory authorities to identify causes, and prevent recurrence.
- Safety Audits & Inspections : Perform regular site inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance and identify improvement areas.
- Emergency Preparedness : Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire safety, chemical spills, and evacuation procedures.
- Machine Safety & Ergonomics : Oversee machine safety protocols, guardings, LOTO procedures, and ergonomic assessments to minimize risks.
- Collaboration & Leadership : Work with leadership, HR, and employees to promote a safety-first culture and proactive safety measures.
- PPE & Equipment Safety : Ensure proper selection, use, and maintenance of safety equipment and PPE.
- Data Analysis & Reporting : Analyze safety data and trends to evaluate safety initiatives and report to senior management.
- Continuous Improvement : Stay updated on safety trends and best practices to enhance safety programs.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Minimum of 7+ years of EH&S experience in manufacturing or industrial settings.
- Experience in food manufacturing is an asset.
- Deep knowledge of safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, WHMIS, local laws).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and incident investigation skills.
- Expertise in Machine Safety and Ergonomics, with risk assessment experience.
- Excellent communication and training skills to influence employees at all levels.
- Knowledge of food safety industry standards.
- Willingness to travel within Canada (~25%).
- Certifications like CSP, CIH, or CRSP are assets.
- Proficiency in safety management software and MS Office.
- Attention to detail, proactive safety approach, leadership, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to handle emergencies and make quick decisions considering company reputation and liability.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
