Overview
Reporting to the Director of HSEQ and collaborating with Superintendents and Project Managers, the Health and Safety Coordinator will ensure consistent implementation of the Health and Safety Program. Responsibilities include facilitating, implementing, documenting, and supporting organizational health and safety performance.
Responsibilities
- Assist maintenance personnel in resolving health and safety challenges.
- Conduct safety inspections, develop action plans, and monitor progress.
- Participate actively in toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings.
- Keep supervision and management informed about safety issues.
- Coach front-line supervision on safety practices and support their daily challenges.
- Develop and deliver safety training and aids.
- Support the development and training of safe work procedures.
- Manage incident investigations, including conducting thorough investigations and implementing corrective actions.
- Research relevant legislation and define issues for correction.
- Complete reports and documentation related to health and safety activities.
- Conduct performance observations and coaching to enhance safety skills.
- Monitor new employees in the Young Worker Program.
- Apply company procedures, industry practices, and regulations, including emergency response plans.
- Participate in confined space permitting and hole watch as required.
- Monitor emergency preparedness at project sites and facilities.
Qualifications
- Completion or near completion of National Construction Safety Officer Designation.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in heavy civil construction and/or marine sectors in BC.
- Experience with health and safety applications for heavy lift cranes is an asset.
- Experience with confined space and fall arrest permitting and management is essential.
