Job description

Overview

Reporting to the Director, HSEQ and working closely with Superintendents and Project Managers, the Health and Safety Coordinator will ensure the consistent application of the Health and Safety Program. The Coordinator will facilitate, implement, document, and perform tasks specific to our program's execution and administration, supporting organizational health and safety performance.

Responsibilities

1. Assist maintenance personnel to resolve health and safety challenges.
2. Perform safety inspections, develop clear action plans, and monitor progress.
3. Participate actively in field operations toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings.
4. Keep supervision and management informed about all safety issues and concerns.
5. Coach front-line supervision on daily safety challenges and support their safety practices.
6. Develop and deliver health and safety training and aids.
7. Support the development and training of safe work procedures.
8. Manage incident investigations by conducting comprehensive accident and incident analyses and implementing corrective actions.
9. Research and define safety issues, relevant legislation, and correction options.
10. Complete required reports and forms to document health and safety activities and facilitate communication.
11. Conduct performance observations and coach personnel to enhance their health and safety skills and knowledge.
12. Monitor and track new employees' participation in the New and Young Worker Program.
13. Understand and apply company procedures, industry practices, regulations, emergency response plans, and specific job operations and equipment.
14. Participate in confined space permitting and hole watch duties when required.
15. Monitor emergency preparedness at project sites and facilities.

Qualifications

• Completion or near completion of the National Construction Safety Officer Designation.
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional (preferred).
• 5+ years' experience in heavy civil construction and/or marine sectors in BC.
• Experience with heavy lift cranes' health and safety applications is an asset.
• Confined Space and Fall Arrest permitting and management experience is essential.
