We are supporting our hiring client in the mining sector, specializing in heli-portable diamond drilling, skid-mounted programs, and self-propelled track-mounted rigs, in hiring a health and safety advisor to join their team in Winnipeg.

The Health & Safety Advisor Role Summary

The health and safety advisor role is responsible for coordinating, administering, and supporting the Company's health and safety programs and compliance activities. The position works closely with management, supervisors, and field personnel to promote a safe work environment, maintain regulatory compliance, and support operational objectives.

Health & Safety Advisor Primary Duties & Responsibilities include
SiteDocs Administration & Compliance Monitoring
  • Manage and monitor the Company's SiteDocs platform.
  • Ensure field crews complete and submit required safety forms, inspections, FLHAs, and related documentation accurately and on time.
  • Review submitted documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Follow up on incomplete, overdue, or missing documentation.
  • Communicate compliance deficiencies to employees, supervisors, and management as required.
  • Generate and distribute compliance reports and summaries.
  • Maintain organized digital safety records and documentation.
  • Support ongoing improvements to digital safety management systems and processes.
Training & Onboarding Coordination
  • Coordinate employee safety orientations and onboarding requirements.
  • Enroll employees in required safety training programs and certifications.
  • Track employee training, qualifications, and certification requirements.
  • Monitor upcoming training expiries and coordinate renewals.
  • Maintain accurate training records and competency documentation.
  • Communicate training requirements to employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Assist in ensuring employees possess all required training and documentation prior to deployment to site.
  • Coordinate external training providers and maintain associated records.
Health & Safety Administration
  • Support the administration and maintenance of the Company's health and safety programs, policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Maintain health and safety manuals, forms, records, and related documentation.
  • Assist with the development, review, and maintenance of Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), and related safety documentation.
  • Support COR™ certification requirements and associated audits.
  • Promote a positive safety culture throughout the organization.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and client-specific health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and advise management of relevant updates.
  • Maintain required safety records and compliance documentation.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Liaise with regulators, auditors, clients, and external stakeholders as required.
  • Coordinate the reporting, documentation, and tracking of incidents, injuries, near misses, and hazards.
  • Assist with incident investigations and the identification of root causes and corrective actions.
  • Monitor and track corrective actions to completion.
  • Maintain confidential injury management and return-to-work documentation.
  • Assist with Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) reporting, claims administration, and related documentation requirements.
  • Track incident trends and support preventative initiatives.
Field & Operational Support
  • Maintain regular communication with field crews, supervisors, and management regarding health and safety matters.
  • Conduct periodic field visits, inspections, and safety observations to support compliance monitoring and employee engagement.
  • Participate in workplace inspections, safety meetings, and operational reviews as required.
  • Support field personnel in hazard identification, risk mitigation, and safe work practices.
  • Assist with monitoring compliance with company safety procedures, policies, and PPE requirements.
  • Support operations and management in identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions.
  • Coordinate workplace inspections, safety audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Monitor and track corrective actions arising from inspections, audits, incidents, and client requirements.
  • Prepare safety reports, statistics, and documentation for management review.
  • Track and monitor safety performance indicators and trends.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for program improvement, compliance enhancement, and operational efficiency.
  • Support safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee safety initiatives.
  • Encourage employee participation in health and safety programs and hazard reporting.
To be considered for this role, the “Health & Safety Advisor ” must have the following qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety, or a related field.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a similar role in the mining, construction, or utility service sector is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience working with Manitoba health and safety Regulation.
