Environmental Health & Safety Advisor- 12-18 Month Contract

Wajax Limited is currently seeking a full-time Permanent Safety Advisor. This job position is an in-person position with required travel. The ideal candidate for this role has a strong Health and safety administration background with keen communication skills. This role requires both office and shop/field time allocation. Wajax EH&S team prides themselves on building lasting relationships within all teams ensuring we provide invaluable collaboration to strengthen the abilities to lead the Organizational core values.

The Role

Key Accountabilities for this role include:

  • Support, participate in and offer coaching to staff and leadership.
  • Conducts in-person and virtual site tours, ensuring effective safety practices while providing advice, guidance, and coaching
  • Support remote branches through regular communication and virtual assistance.
  • Collaborates with leadership & JHSC with clients and external HS related requests.
  • Works jointly with the EHS&W team across Canada on various projects and objectives throughout the year.
  • Aids with maintaining the Certificate of Recognition (COR) and action planning.
  • Assists leadership in reviewing incident investigation and providing guidance on S.M.A.R.T corrective action development.
  • Ensures quality reviews and verification of corrective actions for closure.
  • Attends & participates in safety meetings.
  • Advises, develops, maintains and assists with implementation of the health and safety program.
  • Provides training on a wide range of safety matters that support strategic and operational objectives.
  • Reviews legislation, Industry alerts, policies and procedures; monitors legislative and regulatory changes and initiates changes in workplace practices accordingly.
The Candidate
  • Minimum five years of industrial experience in an OH&S or HSE Advisor role with primary focus on Health and Safety experience.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation in Western Canada is required.
  • Post secondary education related to the OH&S or related field is required.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, investigation and problem‑solving skills.
  • Powerful writing, communication and documentation skills are required.
  • Experience with safety programs to a minimum COR equivalent.
  • Strong team member and self‑starter.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence & vehicle.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is considered an asset.
  • Willing to travel up to 25%
