Job summary

American Iron & Metal (AIM) is hiring a Health and Safety Advisor to lead preventive safety programs at our Hamilton, ON site. You will plan, organize, and oversee workplace safety initiatives, inspections, and training to protect employees across sites.

The ideal candidate holds a college/university certificate in H&S, has 2–3 years of experience, and strong knowledge of Ontario regulations. Join a team focused on a safer, greener future with competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • College or university certificate in H&S or related course.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Strong knowledge of Ontario’s laws and regulations pertaining to occupational H&S.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to think outside the box.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and adaptation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to maintain multiple files concurrently.
  • Autonomous, take initiative, and have a developed customer approach.
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in high-pressure situations.
  • Maintain discretion, confidentiality, and diplomacy in everything you do.
  • Hold a valid G driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of H&S culture with managers and employees.
  • Advise and support managers on H&S initiatives, programs, procedures, and tools.
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure safety rules and regulations are followed.
  • Conduct risk analyses and propose preventive measures.
  • Investigate work-related accidents with managers.
  • Audit adequacy/effectiveness of preventive measures.
  • Coordinate with regulators and third parties for inspections or investigations.
  • Respond to health and safety information requests from employees and customers.
  • Plan and deliver training sessions and monitor completion of trainings.
  • Track and report H&S metrics and indicators.
  • Assist orientation and onboarding for new hires.
  • Support rollout of corporate H&S programs and policies.
  • Advise the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Perform other related H&S tasks as assigned.
  • Occasionally travel to support vacations and new site rollouts.

Job Description

The Health and Safety Advisor will work out of our site in Hamilton, ON and will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and overseeing activities related to the prevention of workplace accidents and occupational health and safety for the sites under their scope.

What you’re responsible for:
  • Supporting the continual development of the H&S culture with all managers and employees.
  • Advising, collaborating, and supporting managers regarding related strategical H&S initiatives, programs, procedures, and tools.
  • Performing regular inspections of workplace and work practices to ensure that safety rules and regulatory requirements are respected.
  • Performing occupational risk analysis and proposes preventive measures.
  • Conducting investigations and analyzes work related accidents with managers.
  • Supporting and auditing the adequacy and effectiveness of preventive measures.
  • Participating and collaborating with regulatory and third parties for inspections or investigations, fire services, etc)).
  • Responding to employees and internal / external customers’ occupational health and safety information requests.
  • Planning and performing internal and external training sessions and monitor completion of mandatory H&S trainings.
  • Tracking and reporting on various H&S metrics and key indicators.
  • Conducting and assisting with orientation sessions for new hires and participate in on-boarding activities as required.
  • Supporting the rollout of corporate/H&S programs, policies, and other initiatives.
  • Advising site Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Performing other related tasks related to H&S duties, as assigned.
  • Minimally traveling to support vacations and the roll out of new sites as needed.
Qualifications

Additional Information
What we offer:
  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 to $85,000; however, compensation may vary based on experience and qualifications
