Job summary

Dexter Construction Company Limited is seeking a Health and Safety Advisor to partner with operations teams, reinforcing a positive safety culture and driving safe work practices. The role emphasizes coaching, site visits, incident investigations, and open dialogue on safety.

Travel across Nova Scotia is required, and the position offers training, development, and advancement opportunities within a comprehensive pension and benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Construction experience and training preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Professionalism, reliability and ability to work independently.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and safety management software such as eCompliance.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Driver's License and willingness to travel within Nova Scotia.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and mentor employees and supervisors on safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to encourage best practices.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses and help develop corrective measures.
  • Promote open dialogue around safety issues and accountability.
  • Assist with audits (COR) and safety certifications maintenance.
  • Compile safety metrics and reporting for leadership.

Job Summary:

A Health and Safety Advisor partners with operations teams to provide guidance, support, and practical solutions that reinforce a positive safety culture and drive safe work practices.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coach and mentor employees and supervisors on safety programs, policies, and procedures
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to encourage best practices
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses and help develop corrective and preventive measures
  • Promote open dialogue around safety issues and encourage a culture of accountability and care
  • Participate in audits (COR) and contribute to the maintenance of safety certifications
  • Assist with compiling safety metrics and reporting for leadership
  • All other duties as required
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
  • Construction experience and training preferred
  • Strong communication skills - verbal, written, and interpersonal
  • Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work independently
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and safety management software (e.g. eCompliance)
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License
  • Must be willing and able to travel within Nova Scotia
