HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER AND ASSISTANT ATHLETICS DIRECTOR
St. Clement's School is currently looking for a qualified Health and Physical Education Teacher and Assistant Athletics Director with a focus on the Junior School (“Teacher”) to join our School on a full-time basis commencing August 25, 2025 , with a New Staff Orientation Day on August 21, 2025.
The Health and Physical Education Teacher and Assistant Athletic Director is passionate about making a difference in the lives of our students. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparation, and teaching at the Junior and Middle School levels and for overseeing the Junior School Athletic Program.
As a Teacher, you will participate actively in staff, department, and professional development meetings and other activities related to School life.. As the Assistant Athletic Director, you will coordinate and oversee aspects of the Junior School athletic program, ensuring it is engaging, inclusive, and provides opportunities for students of all abilities to participate and excel. This position requires some evening and weekend availability to support athletic events.
TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teach Health and Physical Education at the junior levels. Additional middle and/or senior school courses may be assigned and will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the incumbent;
- Design and develop unit plans to deliver curriculum that is challenging, creative, and that creates interdisciplinary connections;
- Support, supervise, and assess students and report on individual student achievement;
- Use technology to enhance learning in the classroom;
- Provide and manage a safe, positive learning environment for students, incorporating best practices in physical literacy development and creating inclusive learning environments that accommodate diverse learning styles and physical abilities;
- Maintain knowledge of developments in teaching and learning strategies and, working with colleagues, determine best practices in instructional planning and delivery;
- Support families with open, ongoing communication about student progress;
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines and grades; participate in department meetings and Professional Development days;
- Full participation and engagement in the life of the School;
- A full coaching load along with organizing and/or participating in co-curricular trips and activities, which may fall before and after school hours and on weekends, and may include occasional supervision of overnight student trips;
- Participate in and support LINCWell initiatives, implementing best practices to meet the individual needs of our students; and
- Other duties as assigned.
ATHLETICS RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under the direction of the Director of Student Life and the Athletics Director, help to deliver a clear vision for the athletic program in line with the school's mission and goals and that makes athletics accessible to all students;
- Engaging, encouraging, and inspiring student participation on the school's athletic opportunities;
- In collaboration with the Athletics Director: Coordinate Junior School athletic teams, tournaments, and special events; support the development of coaches; develop and maintain seasonal athletic schedules and communicate them to the school community; organize transportation for away games and competitions; and manage athletic equipment inventory, maintenance, and purchasing, including uniforms;
- Promote student participation in athletic activities and build school spirit;
- Ensure all athletic activities adhere to appropriate safety protocols and regulations;
- Collaborate with the school's Athletic Director to ensure continuity between Junior School and Senior School athletic programs;
- Represent the school at relevant athletic association meetings and events;
- Maintain accurate records of student participation and team achievements; and
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES- A post-secondary undergraduate degree in Physical Education or Kinesiology, Honours preferred;
- Ontario Teacher Qualifications in the Primary/Junior or Junior/Intermediate divisions and in an additional teaching subject would be an asset;
- Certificate of Qualification and Registration with the OCT;
- Experience in school sports administration, managing athletics programs with a record of coaching; National Coaching Certification is preferred;
- Excellent classroom management, organizational, and planning skills and experience in differentiating instruction;
- Commitment to co-curricular activities and full participation in the life of the school which often includes working after hours and occasional weekends;
- Ability to use a wide variety of teaching and assessment strategies to meet the learning needs of all students;
- Strong communication, teamwork, and instructional skills;
- Fluent in equity literacy with the ability to recognize, respond to, and redress conditions that are inequitable, and actively demonstrate commitment to anti-oppression education;
- Commitment to girls' education, and knowledge of girls' developmental, educational, and social-emotional needs.
- A record of encouraging, nurturing, and supporting students' love of learning;
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to work and plan in close collaboration with all constituents including colleagues, parents, and students;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to handle confidential material and situations with discretion and sensitivity;
- Ability to work in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment as a supportive team player who is adaptable, able to learn quickly and think on their feet; and
- Clear criminal record check is required as a condition of employment.
