Position: Head Start / GSRP Teacher / Southfield Public Schools

SUMMARY

Responsible for ensuring a safe, nurturing, high-quality educational environment for program children and families while maintaining documentation of services provided.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

The Head Start/GSRP Teacher- CDA reports to the designated Coach and Early Head Start/Head Start/GSRP Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Set up and maintain a safe, healthy, developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  2. Complete and execute daily lesson plans based on individual children's needs that include all aspects of the High/Scope daily routine.
  3. Maintain program documentation on children and families.
  4. Support and encourage parent involvement through parent day activities, field trips, volunteer opportunities, conferences, and home visits.
  5. Document and communicate children's progress using the Child Observation Record (COR).
  6. Administer, score, and communicate the developmental assessment results within 45 days of each child entering the program.
  7. Observe and document children's activities and interactions through anecdotal notes.
  8. Work and communicate effectively as part of a team environment.
  9. Prepare, serve, clean up, and document meals as necessary.
  10. Document any contributions to the classroom (food, money, etc.).
  11. Attend meetings and program functions as assigned.
  12. Follow all Board of Education and Policy Council policies, local, state, and federal guidelines, laws, and regulations.
  13. Provides support to other positions as required.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Start/GSRP Director or designee.
  15. Complete High/Scope training within the first school year of employment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood preferred (or commitment to obtain CDA credential within one year of hire).
  2. Experience working with young children.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to apply current research and theoretical knowledge in a specific field.
  2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  3. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
  4. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  5. Knowledge, skill, and ability in using MS Office Suite and e-mail.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. As mandated by the Office of Head Start, all staff must be fully vaccinated.
