They are seeking a strategic and results-driven Head of Quality to lead and oversee quality operations across their Toronto facility.

Position Overview

The Head of Quality will be responsible for the overall quality strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, product integrity, and operational excellence at the Toronto site. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of quality systems, regulatory frameworks (including FDA and ISO standards), and the ability to drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills, a proven track record in quality management, and experience in both consumer products and regulated manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Strategy and Oversight
  • Develop and implement the site-wide quality strategy in alignment with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the ISO 9000 Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Oversee quality standards for the production of detergents and household products, ensuring compliance with industry best practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements, including Health Canada, FDA, and GMP standards for OTC and personal care products.
  • Lead audits and inspections conducted by regulatory agencies or customers, ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Maintain expertise in regulatory updates and integrate changes into quality systems as necessary.
  • Team Leadership and Development
  • Lead and mentor the quality team, including QA managers, lab staff, and quality technicians.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide strategic direction and hands-on support to the team to address complex quality challenges.
  • Operational Quality Assurance
  • Oversee the testing and release of raw materials, in-process batches, and finished goods.
  • Ensure plant-floor adherence to quality protocols and drive improvements in production processes to reduce defects.
  • Monitor sanitation, hygiene, and pest control programs to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness.
  • Health & Safety Leadership
  • Serve as an advisor on health and safety matters, collaborating with the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Ensure alignment of quality initiatives with workplace safety requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for operational efficiencies and cost savings while maintaining or enhancing product quality.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to implement process improvements, leveraging lean manufacturing principles where applicable.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in quality management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9000 QMS, GMP, FDA, and Health Canada regulations.
  • Experience in manufacturing consumer products, including detergents, household products, and regulated personal care items.
  • Proven track record of successful regulatory and customer audits.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams across technical and operational functions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree or certifications (e.g., ASQ, Six Sigma) are a plus.
