Job summary

HDI Global SE Canada in Toronto is seeking a Head of Property to lead our property underwriting team and drive strategy, mentoring staff and strengthening broker and client relationships while delivering profitable portfolio results.

The role requires 10+ years in property underwriting with strong analytical, negotiating and communication skills. English fluency is essential; knowledge of French or German is a plus.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in property underwriting.
• Bachelor's degree and CIP designation required; FCIP preferred.
• Excellent negotiation and analytical skills; strong communication in English.
• French and/or German language skills are a plus.
• Proficiency with underwriting systems and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily and long-term operations of the Property department to meet objectives.
• Develop and execute the department's business strategy.
• Underwrite profitable new and renewal business within company frameworks.
• Provide expert leadership to staff and mentor colleagues.
• Cultivate broker and client relationships to drive business development.
• Ensure accurate file documentation and policy issuance.
• Represent the company at industry events and client meetings.

Your Responsibilities

• Leading, directing and overseeing the daily and long-term operations of our Property department to meet our operational, financial and service requirements
• Developing and executing the business strategy for the department
• Producing and underwriting profitable new and renewal business within the framework of our
• Providing expert leadership to staff
• Empowering, enabling and unlocking the potential of team members
• Promoting motivation and engagement within the team
• Developing and maintaining a strong relationship with Head Office
• Effectively implementing and adapting global strategies in Canada while ensuring alignment and collaboration across all involved areas
• Providing superior service to our brokers and clients at all stages of the underwriting process
• Cultivating new broker relationships and maintaining existing ones in support of our business objectives
• Developing customized solutions for our clients
• Conducting broker and client presentations to support business development
• Enhancing our brand visibility by participating in industry events, socials, conferences, etc
• Ensuring proper file documentation and accuracy of policy documents

Your Profile (Skills, Qualifications & Experience)

• 10+ years of experience in property underwriting
• Solid technical knowledge of Property policy wordings and underwriting methods
• Entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with the ability to adapt and provide creative solutions
• Bachelor's degree and CIP designation required; FCIP designation preferred
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task
• Exceptional negotiation, problem-solving and analytical skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Working knowledge of French and/or German is considered an asset
• Proficiency with underwriting systems and Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to balance team leadership responsibilities with portfolio management and business development

objectives.

• Occasional travel to key markets is expected.
