Job summary

SkyCan Systems in Toronto is seeking an hands-on Head of People to build the HR foundation as the company scales from 10 to 300 by 2027. You will own recruiting end-to-end, design policies, and implement AI-assisted processes to streamline onboarding, payroll, and employee records.

Initially you’ll be a one-person team reporting to the General Counsel & CAO, with plans to grow a lean People function. You’ll influence culture, compliance, and growth.

Qualifications

• Experience leading HR and talent acquisition in a manufacturing/industrial environment is ideal.

Responsibilities

• Own the recruiting plan end to end for growth from ~10 to ~300 employees by 2027.
• Build HR foundations: org structure, job levels, pay bands, policies and career paths.
• Set up onboarding that scales to 25+ new hires per month and ensure health and safety training before production work.
• Run employee relations with a visible presence on the floor and coach managers on hiring and performance.
• Manage HRIS, payroll inputs, benefits, time and attendance, and data reporting to leadership.
• Coordinate security clearances and Controlled Goods compliance as the team grows.
