Job summary

Netflix Animation Studios Canada ULC is seeking an experienced Head of Environments in Vancouver to lead environment asset creation for feature animation. You will oversee Modeling, Surfacing, and Matte Painting, guiding both artistic and technical strategies from concept through production.

The role requires deep expertise in Maya, texturing pipelines, and strong leadership to balance artistic vision with schedule and budget pressures. Hybrid work from Vancouver is offered.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in environment asset creation within film, TV, or games
• 5–7 years in a leadership or supervisory role on large-scale animated features or VFX films
• Expert knowledge of Modeling and Surfacing workflows and 3D environment layout

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise environment asset creation across the show
• Define creative and technical approach for modeling, surfacing, camera projections, and matte painting
• Drive team reviews and provide actionable feedback to Modeling, Surfacing, and DMP
• Collaborate with Directors, Production Designers, Art Directors, and VFX Supervisors to translate 2D designs into 3D sets
• Partner with Technical Supervisors and pipeline teams to define and maintain efficient asset-creation tools
• Ensure environment assets meet high technical standards and integrate with Layout, Lighting, and Compositing
