Job summary

ValPay, a Valsoft subsidiary, seeks an Head of Engineering in Canada to shape and scale a high‑performing engineering function. You will lead delivery end‑to‑end, build a management layer, and partner with Product on strategy while maintaining strict technical standards.

This build role aims to evolve toward CTO and requires strong judgment, hiring prowess, and hands‑on depth when needed. You will drive AI adoption, ensure PCI DSS readiness, and maintain reliability across multi‑jurisdiction

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering, with 4+ years leading engineers.
• Proven ability to build and scale tech orgs in high-growth settings.
• Experience hiring and developing engineering leaders.
• Able to review architecture and incidents, without daily coding.
• Strong business-technical communication for executives.

Responsibilities

• Own engineering delivery end-to-end — planning, execution, release cadence, and quality.
• Build and lead the engineering management layer: hire, develop, and coach managers and senior engineers.
• Partner with Product on roadmap feasibility, sequencing, and trade-offs.
• Set and enforce technical standards across the platform — architecture, testing, observability, and documentation.
• Serve as senior technical escalation point for integrations with core payments partners (Adyen, Fiserv).
• Drive AI adoption inside engineering, in SDLC and developer productivity.
• Own engineering operations and reliability: on-call, incident response, postmortems, and SLAs.
