Job description:

Reporting to the Store Manager, the Head Cashier plays a critical role in enabling the organization to achieve its objectives. The ideal candidate has a strong background in transaction management and team leadership, is ambitious, eager for success, and has excellent customer service skills. They must be capable of managing daily cash register operations and demonstrate a passion for the tool industry. The Head Cashier leads a team that executes tasks according to company procedures, prioritizing customer service and experience. Leadership includes recruiting, training, motivating, and developing the team, with a focus on mentoring.

Main responsibilities:
  1. Demonstrate daily leadership to build and support the cashier team.
  2. Handle payments via cash, cheque, credit card, e-transfer, or direct deposit.
  3. Operate scanners, cash registers, POS systems, and computers.
  4. Provide receipts, process refunds, credits, and assist customers.
  5. Stay updated on promotions and inform the team.
  6. Prepare team schedules.
  7. Plan and oversee store cleaning, display cases, shelves, and aisles.
  8. Develop customer relationships and sales skills.
  9. Organize clerical tasks such as till counts, deposits, emails, and action plans.
  10. Coordinate with head office and other stores for effective communication.
  11. Audit transaction procedures to ensure standards compliance.
  12. Prepare performance management reports with area managers and support team development.
Experience and Skills:
  • Minimum 2-3 years of management experience in transaction operations.
  • Experience in the tool industry or related fields is an asset.
  • Ability to work organized, demonstrate judgment, reasoning, and initiative.
  • Extensive customer service and transaction experience.
  • Knowledge of theft prevention.
  • Ability to adapt positively to changes and unforeseen events.
  • Physical ability to stand/walk for long periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Excellent business knowledge, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong team-building and leadership abilities.
Location and Compensation:
  • Location: Burnaby, BC
  • Workplace: On site
  • Salary: $25.00 to $28.00 per hour
  • Terms: Permanent, full-time
  • Start: As soon as possible
