Job summary

Western Community College invites applications from qualified and experienced candidates to teach the Health Care Assistant Program (Practicum/Clinical) at its Surrey campus. Instructors will participate in student success through evaluation, assessments, lectures, and skills demonstrations.

Minimum requirements include a current unrestricted nursing license (LPN, RN, or RPN) with BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and proven ability to teach adult learners.

Qualifications

• Current unrestricted nursing license (LPN, RN, or RN with no conditions)
• Experience teaching adult learners and providing feedback via course evaluations
• 2+ years of Canadian nursing experience with knowledge of the health care system
• Evidence of Indigenous cultural safety training (e.g., San’yas)
• Completion of HCA Practice course on LearningHub or orientation/on-boarding

The instructors will be required to participate in student success through evaluation, assessments, lectures, and skills demonstrations.

Minimum Requirements:

Each of the following minimum instructor qualifications must be met:

1. Current unrestricted (i.e., no conditions on license or provisional registration) full registration as a licensed practical nurse, registered nurse or registered psychiatric nurse with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
2. Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners (e.g., completion of Provincial Instructor Diploma or equivalent education or previous teaching experience with satisfactory references or positive performance evaluations and student course evaluations).
3. Two or more years of full-time Canadian nursing experience (1 year = 1400 work hours) with relevant knowledge of the Canadian health care system, the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members and current policies and procedures within residential and community care settings. Nursing work experience to include:
   1. 
      Experience in working with older adults with complex health needs; and
   2. Experience or orientation (e.g., shadow shifts) in home support and multi-level/complex care.
      
4. Evidence of completion of course work in Indigenous cultural safety and humility (e.g., San’yas Anti-Racism Indigenous Cultural Safety Training or an alternative training program).
5. Evidence of completion of the Health Care Assistant Practice in BC course available on the LearningHub as part of their orientation/on-boarding. This will support a current understanding of the role of the HCA within BC.

We are looking for Instructors for the following schedule: Mon - Fri from 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm
