Job summary

Discovery Community College is seeking a dedicated HCA Instructor to teach Onsite Lab and Clinical at Courtenay, BC. This part-time role offers mentoring and shaping the next generation of nursing professionals with engaging instruction.

Start date: December 8, 2026. Rate Range: $34-45 for LPN; $40-60 for RN. Labs schedule: Mon–Fri, 8:00am–4:00pm with daily student support hours; instructor hours may adjust with class schedules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2,800 hours of nursing experience including maternity, mental health or acute care.
• Current full registration with BCCNM as an LPN, RN, or RDPN – required.
• Previous instructor experience is an asset.
• Experience with Office 365 and SIS is an asset.
• Strong communication and mentorship skills.
• Ability to travel to local sites within region.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality instruction in laboratory and clinical settings.
• Implement and evaluate lesson plans using the approved HCA curriculum and ensure compliance with program requirements.
• Demonstrate, supervise, and evaluate practical healthcare skills in lab and clinical environments.
• Monitor student progress, assess competency development, and provide feedback.
• Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment that supports student success and growth.
• Ensure safe clinical practice by reinforcing healthcare standards and policies.
• Collaborate with program coordinators and facility staff to support outcomes.
• Maintain current knowledge of healthcare practices and developments relevant to HCA education.

Schedule for Labs: Monday to Friday (8:00am to 4:00pm) Plus 1 hours per day Student Support hours) Current Instruction hours subject to change depended on class schedule

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality instruction and facilitate student learning in both laboratory and clinical settings.
• Implement and evaluate lesson plans using the approved HCA curriculum, ensuring compliance with PTIRU and program requirements (comprehensive orientation and curriculum training provided).
• Demonstrate, supervise, and evaluate practical healthcare skills in lab and clinical environments.
• Monitor student progress, assess competency development, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes student success and professional growth.
• Ensure safe clinical practice by reinforcing healthcare standards, policies, and best practices.
• Collaborate with program coordinators, healthcare facility staff, and fellow instructors to support student learning outcomes.
• Maintain current knowledge of healthcare practices, industry standards, and developments relevant to Health Care Assistant education.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2,800 hours of nursing experience, inclusive of either maternity or mental health or Acute Care.
• Current full registration with the BCCNM as an LPN, RN, or RDPN – required.
• Previous instructor experience is an asset.
• Experience with Office 365 and Student Information Systems (SIS) is an asset.
• Strong communication and mentorship skills.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles.
• Commitment to fostering a positive educational experience.
• Ability to travel to local sites withing region.

Required Experience

• In a Long-term Care facility in Canada within the last two years, or relevant experience.
