Job summary

Clean Harbors in Nisku, AB is seeking a Hazardous Waste Specialist (CleanPack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect hazardous waste at customer sites, labs, and plants. This role includes assisting with HHW collections and lab moves, and requires travel to customer sites daily.

The position is customer-facing and involves training at Red Deer, AB; strong communication, independence, and safety compliance are essential. CDL may be required.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 3 Driver’s License highly preferred.
• Glass 5 license requires a reliable vehicle to commute to the branch.
• College Degree in chemistry or applicable experience needed (lab packing, HW waste segregation etc.).
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and handle a variety of priorities.
• Ability to perform physical functions per job requirements.
• Able to be clean shaven to wear respirators if needed.
• Strong understanding of Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
• Previous experience in Environmental Services highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure Health and Safety is the top priority and follow safe work practices.
• Prepare packing lists, labels, manifests and disposal notifications.
• Inspect staging areas for housekeeping and compliance.
• Inspect drums for leaks and proper labeling compliance.
• Collect, segregate and package waste chemicals for disposal.
• Perform projects per site regulations and health and safety plans.
• Understand customer disposal restrictions and packaging requirements.
• Sample and profile new waste streams or wastes needing testing.
• Ensure drum counts are correct and drums are shippable per policy.
• Follow local, provincial and federal compliance rules.
• Observe environmental health and safety guidelines.
