  • Part-time

About Us: We’re a carbon-neutral food company on a mission to Raise the Good in Food—through better nutrition, safer workplaces, humane animal care, and sustainability efforts that protect our planet. We also work to reduce food insecurity in Canada. Join us and help build a better future.

We embrace a strong, values-based culture Our eight Leadership Values are our north star. They guide the decisions we make for all our stakeholders: our consumers, our customers, our people, our communities, our shareholders, and the environment.

Looking for a part-time opportunity where no two days are exactly the same?

Join our New Hamburg Hatchery in a flexible production role that gives you the opportunity to learn different areas of our operation, work with multiple departments, and develop a broad range of skills through hands‑on cross‑training. Our workplace is conveniently located approximately 15 minutes from Kitchener

As a Hatchery Worker – Production, you may work in areas such as the Chick Room, Sanitation, Box Wash, Hatcher operations, and Delivery, depending on production needs. It’s a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, learning new tasks, and being part of a team.

What you need to know:

  • Hourly Rate: $20.90 – $21.90, based on progression
  • Morning Shift: 5:00 a.m. to finish
  • Afternoon Shift: 1:00 p.m. to finish
  • Location: New Hamburg, approximately 15 minutes from Kitchener
  • On-the-job training and cross-training provided

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

One of the best parts of this position is the opportunity to gain experience across different areas of the hatchery.

Depending on where support is needed, your day could include:

  • Chick Room: Learn how to grade and sort chicks while meeting quality, animal welfare and biosecurity standards.
  • Hatcher & Sanitation: Help clean and sanitize hatchery equipment and production areas using established sanitation procedures.
  • Box Wash: Clean and sanitize chick boxes, dollies and egg trays that are essential to keeping daily hatchery operations moving.
  • Production Support: Cross‑train in different general labour positions and step into areas where the team needs additional support.

This variety provides the opportunity to build experience in several parts of our operation rather than being limited to one production area.

What You’ll Bring:

We’re looking for someone who is flexible, dependable, eager to learn, and comfortable working in a hands‑on production environment.

You’ll be successful in this role if you:

  • Are interested in learning different jobs and working across multiple areas.
  • Have strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe work practices.
  • Can work flexible hours until daily production tasks are completed.
  • Can stand for extended periods and repetitively lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Are comfortable working in an environment that can include noise, humidity, wet surfaces and strong odours.
  • Can follow SOPs, production schedules, health and safety requirements, and biosecurity protocols.
  • Can meet applicable PCP, WHMIS and CFIA requirements.
  • Are ready to learn. No formal education is required, and training is provided.

What We Offer at Maple Leaf Foods:

  • Competitive hourly pay with progression from $20.90 to $21.90
  • Hands‑on training across different hatchery functions
  • Variety in your work and the opportunity to develop multiple skills
  • Mental Health and Employee Assistance Program
  • $125 annual safety shoe reimbursement after 3 months of employment
  • A regular 4-day weekly schedule, with a maximum of 30 hours per week
