Job summary

Sanmina Corporation's Advanced Microsystems Technologies (AMT) division seeks a Hardware Engineering Technologist to support the engineering lab, hardware development, and test activities in Ottawa. You will manage lab resources, assist with hardware and RF/electronic design efforts, and help bring up test systems.

  • Experience with CAD tools and/or test automation considered an asset.
  • Experience in mechanical prototyping & assembly considered an asset.
  • Experience with milling and general metal work considered an asset.
  • Experience with lab organization, planning and/or maintenance considered an asset.
  • Good English communication skills. Bilingualism is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Management and organization of engineering lab and supplies, calibration, and lab needs.
  • Equipment procurement and maintenance including soldering stations, microscopes, RF equipment, mechanical gear and electronic test equipment.
  • Mechanical support: troubleshooting, fixture modification, light machining and prototyping.
  • Test system support: integration, assembly and bring up.
  • Learn operation of systems and machines when support is needed.
  • Support development and implementation of advanced designs spanning various applications and markets.
  • Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations and data.

Hardware Engineering Technologist - (110911)

The Hardware Engineering Technologist supports the engineering department in the areas of lab management, hardware support, process support and design support as applicable.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities
  • Management and organization of engineering lab (e.g. keeping supplies stocked, keeping equipment calibrated, managing lab needs).
  • Equipment procurement and maintenance including: soldering stations, microscopes, RF equipment (e.g. connectors, adapters, cables), mechanical equipment (e.g. fasteners, milling supplies, etc.) and electronic test equipment.
  • Mechanical support - equipment troubleshooting, tool maintenance, fixture modification, light machining & prototyping.
  • Test system support - integration, assembly and bring up.
  • Learning operation of systems & machines when support is needed.
  • Supports development and implementation of advanced designs spanning a variety of applications and markets.
  • Works on issues of limited scope. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily available.
  • May provide services in areas of electrical systems design, analog/digital circuit design, system reliability, packaging, RF, microelectronic and opto-electronic circuit, module and component design, and/or EM and optical modeling.
  • Has the authority to make responsible decisions comparable to scope of position.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or 3 year Engineering Technology Diploma or equivalent related experience.
  • 0-2 years related experience.
  • Experience in electronics operational & production environment required.
  • Experience with electronics soldering required.
  • Experience in basic electronics, electronics testing & debugging considered an asset.
  • Experience with CAD tools and/or test automation considered an asset.
  • Experience in mechanical prototyping & assembly considered an asset.
  • Experience with milling and general metal work considered an asset.
  • Experience with lab organization, planning and/or maintenance considered an asset.
  • Good English communication skills. Bilingualism is an asset.

OTHER INFORMATION
  • The compensation range for this position is $55,000- $75,000 annually.
  • This position is for an existing vacancy.
