Job summary

Nepean Housing Corporation is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to provide general labour support to the Property Services team across Ottawa properties. The role involves assisting Maintenance Technicians with maintenance tasks, inspections, and upkeep of housing units, including move‑in/move‑out checks and life safety inspections.

The position is temporary, unionized (CUPE Local 4473), with 28‑40 hours per week at a rate of $26.06/hour.

Qualifications

• Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of related experience in property maintenance, construction, janitorial services, or residential rental environments.
• Valid driver's licence and the ability to provide a satisfactory driver's abstract.
• Ability to obtain a satisfactory criminal record check relevant to the duties of the position.

Responsibilities

• Assist with general property maintenance tasks including painting, drywall repair, minor plumbing, carpentry, and other basic repairs.
• Support maintenance technicians with preventative maintenance activities and work orders.
• Perform groundskeeping and cleaning duties at housing properties.
• Deliver materials, equipment, and notices to various sites.
• Assist with unit inspections including move‑in and move‑out inspections.
• Support life safety inspections including smoke alarms, CO detectors, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance materials and supplies.
• Assist with preventative maintenance inspections of occupied and vacant units.
• Communicate professionally with tenants regarding maintenance matters when required.
• Carry an on‑call phone for emergency maintenance response as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
