If you have a steady hand, a sharp eye for detail, and a deep respect for electronics manufacturing quality standards, you will be a vital asset to our assembly team.

Full-time, Permanent

Expected pay for this position is between CA$20.00 andCA$22.00 per hour

  • Precision Craftsmanship: Execute precision hand soldering of electronic assemblies to augment and complete automated assembly processes.
  • Standard Compliance: Maintain active certification to the IPC-A-610 workmanship standard.
  • Quality Champion: Demonstrate a clear, practical, and working understanding of IPC-A-610 standards, applying them rigorously to every board that crosses your workbench.
Key Responsibilities
  • Component Soldering: Perform intricate hand soldering of electronic component parts, including micro-components as small as 0201 or 0.5mm pitch.
  • Microscopic Precision: Comfortably and consistently work under optical or digital microscopes for extended periods.
  • Mechanical Assembly: Employ various hand tools on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) for tasks including soldering, depanelization, conformal coating, labeling, and other light mechanical assembly duties.
  • In-Process Quality Control: Inspect all in-process electronic assemblies from prior manufacturing stages for IPC-A-610 compliance before proceeding with your own work.
  • Rework & Touch-Up: Perform high-quality touch-ups, modifications, or reworks on soldering defects identified by AOI or quality inspectors.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Step in to support other assembly teams as needed with general hand assembly work or dedicated QC inspection tasks.

  • Education & Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate in electronics manufacturing is highly preferred.
  • Current or recent certification in IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) and ideally J-STD-001 (Requirements for Soldered Electrical and Electronic Assemblies).
  • Technical Experience:
  • Minimum of 2+ years of dedicated hand soldering experience in an EMS or high-tech manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience with lead-free (RoHS) soldering processes, understanding the distinct thermal requirements and flux chemistries.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and follow complex engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Thorough understanding of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) safety protocols and safe handling of moisture-sensitive devices.
  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Exceptional fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to doing it right the first time.

  • First Pass Yield (FPY): Achieving a >99% First Pass Yield on all personal hand-soldered components passing through final quality inspection.
  • Rework Effectiveness: 99% success rate on assigned rework/touch-up tasks without causing secondary thermal damage to the PCB or adjacent components.
  • Defect Detection: Number of upstream defects (from SMT or wave processes) accurately identified and flagged during your in-process inspection before adding value to the board.
  • Standard Adherence: Zero non-conformances related to ESD protocols, workstation 5S organization, or tool maintenance.
