Job summary

West Coast Seniors Housing Management is seeking a Hair Stylist contractor to provide professional hair services to residents at Comox Valley Seniors Village.

The role reports to the General Manager and requires at least 1 year of beauty service experience; a cosmetology or barber license is an asset; ability to lift up to 50 lbs. You must pass a vulnerable sector check and communicate in English.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of beauty service experience.
• Cosmetology or barber license is an asset.
• Knowledge of different hair tools and products.
• Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.
• Willingness to pass vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional hair services to residents.
• Cut, trim, set and color hair per resident wishes.
• Maintain a clean, safe and relaxed salon environment.
• Attend trainings and keep workstation orderly.
• Follow infection control procedures.
• Maintain a professional and friendly approach.
• Collaborate with team to support organizational culture.
• Performs other related duties as required.

About the Role

The Hair Stylist is an independent contractor position that reports to the General Manager and/ or designate. This role is responsible for providing professional hair services to persons served in the community. Services are delivered to residents within the framework of a predominantly elderly community with diverse ethnic and cultural experiences.

Responsibilities

Include but not limited to;

• Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
• Cutting, trimming, and setting and coloring hair for residents according to resident/substitute decision maker’s wishes.
• Quickly responds to resident’s concerns about hair styling. Helps foster and maintain a relaxed and positive salon atmosphere.
• Attends trainings and informative programs.
• Keeps tools and workstation clean.
• Maintains a professional and friendly approach.
• Maintains a safe environment for residents, family and staff, through: accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures and regulations, the safe use of supplies and equipment and reporting when repairs are necessary, and utilizing infection control procedures
• Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Minimum 1 year of beauty service experience.
• Cosmetology or barber license an asset.
• Knowledge of different hair tools and products.
• Creative, artistic, and innovative.
• Experience working with dementia clients an asset.
• All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
• Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
• Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer skills including Word and Outlook.
