Job summary

TVO Media Education Group is hiring a Guidance Counsellor to support students in TVO ILC, focusing on guidance and career education. You will assess learning opportunities, work with teachers, parents, and committees, and help students meet diploma requirements with PLAR considerations.

You will liaise across teams, administer accommodations, and participate in data collection to improve outcomes for diverse learners in Ontario's online and in-person settings.

Qualifications

• Must be in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (Guidance Specialist) and Intermediate/Senior qualifications.
• Strong knowledge of Ontario curriculum, policies, and guidance/career education.
• Experience with PLAR and Mature PLAR.
• Proven leadership in inclusive, participatory education.
• Excellent administrative and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with students, teachers, and parents, and work with colleagues and committees on guidance services.
• Support diploma requirements, diploma assessments, and PLAR processes.
• Assist in EQAO testing administration for eligible students.
• Provide support to Administrative Services on student issues and concerns.

What we’re looking for

As part of the TVO ILC team – the largest online secondary school in Ontario – the Guidance Counsellor will support students, implement curriculum practices relevant to guidance and career education, and assess and evaluate learning opportunities and experiences using a variety of data collection methods.

How you will make an impact

• Liaise with students, teachers, and parents, and work collaboratively with colleagues and various groups and committees, on matters regarding guidance services
• Provide support in the area of diploma requirements, diploma assessments and Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)
• Provide support in the administration of the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) testing for eligible students
• Provide support to Administrative Services colleagues on student issues/concerns
• Develop and implement accommodation plans as required

What you will bring to TVO

• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers with Guidance (Specialist) and Intermediate/Senior teacher qualifications
• Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum, district school board policies and guidelines, and legal and ethical issues related to guidance and career education
• Knowledge of all policy documents, course selection, and course sequencing
• Experience developing, using, and accommodating expectations based on the needs of all students, including knowledge of special education, accommodation, documentation, and legislation
• Proven leadership in developing and delivering services that promote inclusion, participation, creativity, and empowerment to build a vibrant community where safety and wellbeing are shared values
• Experience with prior learning assignments; familiar with Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) and Mature PLAR
• Solutions-driven with excellent judgement and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent administrative and organizational skills, and a solid understanding of the past and new curricula and educational options relating to the distance learner
• Excellent people skills with a proven ability to work in a team environment
• Comfortable working with technology including Student Records Systems and various software applications
• Experience working with Indigenous students and understanding of Indigenous culture and ways of learning are assets.
