Job summary

TVO is seeking a Guidance Counsellor to join the TVO ILC team in Toronto. The role focuses on supporting students, implementing curriculum practices related to guidance and career education, and evaluating learning opportunities using data collection methods.

The candidate should be a certified Ontario teacher with guidance specialization, have knowledge of diploma requirements and PLAR, and be able to collaborate with teachers, students, and families. This is a full-time, on-site position.

Qualifications

• Experience in guidance and career education within Ontario education.
• Knowledge of diploma requirements and PLAR processes.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with students, teachers, and parents to coordinate guidance services.
• Support diploma requirements, diploma assessments, and PLAR.
• Assist in administering EQAO testing for eligible students.
• Support Administrative Services on student issues and concerns.
• Develop and implement accommodation plans as required.

What We’re Looking For

As part of the TVO ILC team – the largest online secondary school in Ontario – the Guidance Counsellor will support students, implement curriculum practices relevant to guidance and career education, and assess and evaluate learning opportunities and experiences using a variety of data collection methods.

How You Will Make An Impact

• Liaise with students, teachers, and parents, and work collaboratively with colleagues and various groups and committees, on matters regarding guidance services
• Provide support in the area of diploma requirements, diploma assessments and Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR)
• Provide support in the administration of the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) testing for eligible students
• Provide support to Administrative Services colleagues on student issues/concerns
• Develop and implement accommodation plans as required

What You Will Bring To TVO

• Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers with Guidance (Specialist) and Intermediate/Senior teacher qualifications
• Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum, district school board policies and guidelines, and legal and ethical issues related to guidance and career education
• Knowledge of all policy documents, course selection, and course sequencing
• Experience developing, using, and accommodating expectations based on the needs of all students, including knowledge of special education, accommodation, documentation, and legislation
• Proven leadership in developing and delivering services that promote inclusion, participation, creativity, and empowerment to build a vibrant community where safety and wellbeing are shared values
• Experience with prior learning assignments; familiar with Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition (PLAR) and Mature PLAR
• Solutions-driven with excellent judgement and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent administrative and organizational skills, and a solid understanding of the past and new curricula and educational options relating to the distance learner
• Excellent people skills with a proven ability to work in a team environment
• Comfortable working with technology including Student Records Systems and various software applications
• Experience working with Indigenous students and understanding of Indigenous culture and ways of learning are assets.
