Job summary

Lyft in Toronto is seeking a Software Engineer for Growth Platforms to help design and implement backend features that empower Lyft drivers and riders. You will work with cross-functional partners to deliver scalable services, emphasize reliability, and iterate quickly in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, testing, and on-call responsibilities, with a hybrid in-office schedule and a base pay range of CAD 108,000–135,000 per year in the Toronto area.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 3–5 years of software engineering experience in backend features.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages; strong fundamentals in performance and reliability.
• Familiarity with microservices, REST/gRPC, queues, and async patterns.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and data modeling.
• Observability tooling and incident handling experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend features end-to-end with clear ownership.
• Write clean, reliable, well-tested code meeting team standards.
• Participate actively in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Debug and resolve issues across backend services including performance bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and partner teams to clarify requirements.
• Contribute to technical discussions and evaluate implementation approaches.
• Write unit and integration tests and improve testing and observability practices.
• Address technical debt and make incremental improvements to services.
• Participate in on-call rotations and production incident response.
• Communicate progress, blockers, and tradeoffs clearly within the team.
