Job summary

Closer To Home Community Services Society in Coaldale, AB, seeks a Child and Youth Worker to support children and youth in a newly created community group home, using the Teaching Family Model. The role emphasizes day-to-day care, structure, skill development and crisis management to promote safety and belonging.

Responsibilities include assisting with routines, school work, transport, and coordination with families, while adhering to program protocols.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in a related field preferred; experience with vulnerable children and families is an asset.
• Experience in community group care or in-care programs is advantageous.
• Experience delivering trauma-informed, family-sensitive, culturally responsive care.
• Willing to work a 12-hour shift pattern, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Valid Alberta driver's license and reliable vehicle; permit to provide a driver’s abstract on hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day activities, visits and appointments.
• Implement skill development strategies, manage crises and support school-related difficulties.
• Support interconnectedness across family, academics, recreation and community inclusion.
• Aid youth in mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being and sense of belonging.
• Complete daily household tasks: cooking, cleaning, and other duties.
• Transport youth to school, appointments or visits.
• Follow workplace protocols regarding animals in group homes and report allergy risks.
