Job summary

Eckler Ltd. / Eckler ltée is seeking an Actuarial Consultant for the Group Benefits Practice. The role can be based in Canada, preferably Toronto or Vancouver, with a hybrid work arrangement (3 days in office minimum).

The successful candidate will provide expert actuarial support, manage projects, mentor analysts, and collaborate with group insurers across the Canadian market. The ideal candidate has 4+ years in a consulting or insurance setting, ASA/ACIA designation (or pursuing FSA/FCIA), and

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in a consulting environment or related insurance field.
  • ASA/ACIA designation completed or in progress toward FSA/FCIA.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team and mentor junior analysts.
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of group insurance and employee benefits valuations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional support to Eckler’s national team of consultants.
  • Lead and manage actuarial projects across multiple sectors.
  • Coach and mentor junior analysts in the practice.
  • Interact with group insurance providers in the Canadian marketplace.
  • Manage complex projects, balancing oversight with delegation and deadlines.
  • Present or lead internal and external client meetings.
  • Support client communications and build direct client relationships.
  • Contribute to renewals, financials, and day-to-day plan management activities.
  • Grow and evolve the Group Benefits Practice and Eckler overall.

To help support our continued growth, we are looking for an Actuarial Consultant to join our Group Benefits Practice. The role can be based in any one of our EB1 offices located in Canada, preferably in Toronto or Vancouver.

Our Group Benefits Consultants are committed to providing clients with unsurpassed advice on their group benefits plans. Our team advises on a wide range of employee benefits for active, disabled or retired employees and workers’ compensation benefits across multiple sectors, including corporate, multi-employer trusteed, and public sector.

A typical day-in-the life of a Group Benefits Consultant involves performing and managing actuarial projects relating to employee benefits. You will work with our sophisticated valuation software and support ongoing refinement of our valuation data cleansing, assumption setting, processing and modelling tools for post-employment and workers’ compensation valuations. Additionally, you may also be involved with group insurance renewals and financials, working with various pricing and claims experience trends and forecasting tools. To support the management of our clients’ overall benefit programs, you will assist with research, analyses, and draft and deliver reports and presentations to share key findings with clients.

We are looking for an individual with a strong actuarial background and practical experience in either group insurance or the healthcare field. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator with strong interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, and team management skills. They will fit into a tightly knit team and are expected to effectively manage competing priorities and take ownership and pride in their work, in a busy consulting practice. As a member of our team, the successful candidate will:
  • Provide exceptional support to our national team of consultants
  • Have the opportunity to work on, and manage, plans in multiple sectors
  • Work collaboratively with, coach, and mentor, junior analysts in the practice
  • Work directly and communicate with various group insurance providers in the Canadian marketplace
  • Effectively manage complex projects, balancing oversight with delegating work as appropriate, and ensuring deadlines are met while complying with professional and Eckler standards
  • Present or take lead in both internal team meetings and external client meetings
  • Manage and support client communications and build direct relationships with clients
  • Collaborate with our benefits consultants to support group insurance renewals, financials, and day-to-day plan management activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing success of the practice and the firm
  • Receive exposure to other practice areas within Eckler
