Job summary

Air Canada is seeking a permanent, full-time Ground Equipment Mechanic in Vancouver, BC. The role focuses on preventive maintenance and repair of ground support equipment used at airports, requiring solid knowledge of powertrains, hydraulics, and electrical systems.

You will demonstrate teamwork, reliable attendance, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment while meeting medical and security requirements.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid provincial endorsement or license as automotive service technician / heavy-duty machinery mechanic / truck and coach service technician.
  • At least 1 year of experience in the trade.
  • Must pass the pre-employment qualification test.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meet Air Canada's medical and security clearances requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe preventive maintenance and repairs of ground equipment at airports per regulations.
  • Work with powertrains, diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and welding as needed.
  • Read schematics and use diagnostic tools and computers for troubleshooting.
  • Be a team player with strong written and oral communication, customer-oriented.

Starting Salary: $46.16/hour

Shift Premium: Night - $2.50 for each hour worked between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Air Canada is currently looking for a dynamic individual to fill a permanent full-time Ground Equipment Mechanic position.

The Ground Equipment Maintenance Specialist must:

  • Ensure the safe preventive maintenance and repairs of various types of equipment used in ground operations at airports, in accordance with applicable regulations and codes.
  • Good knowledge of powertrains and diesel or gasoline engines. Practical knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems, metal product fabrication, and welding, an asset.
  • Must be able to understand various troubleshooting schematics and be proficient in computers and diagnostic tools.
  • Must be a team player with written and oral communication skills; customer-oriented and able to work in a demanding environment.

Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of experience in the trade.
  • Pass the pre-employment qualification test.
  • High school diploma.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and reliability to support the overall success of the team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Employees holding this safety-critical position must meet Air Canada's medical requirements to be eligible. Candidates will be subject to a medical evaluation, including a drug and alcohol screening test, and must not be under the influence of intoxicants.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all transport security clearances and other applicable additional accreditations. Please refer to the Transport Canada website for more details.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the country concerned at the time a job offer is presented and are responsible for obtaining work permits, visas, or other necessary authorizations. Proof of eligibility must be provided before the start date.
Assets
  • Interprovincial Qualification (Red Seal)
  • Trade-related certificates or licenses, such as: advanced fuel injection and diesel engine tuning, air conditioning and refrigeration, and automotive inspection.
  • Experience in the maintenance of mobile ground power units (generators), air conditioners (up to 110 tons), pneumatic units (compressors up to 250 cu ft/min), but experience in agricultural or heavy equipment maintenance will also be considered.
