Job summary

Calgary Co-op in Strathmore, Alberta is seeking a Grocery Utility Clerk to ensure exceptional customer service while maintaining a safe, efficient store operation. You will stock, build displays, manage stock levels, and uphold price integrity across dairy, freezer, grocery and warehouse areas.

Responsibilities include receiving, ordering, inventory, and assisting in other departments as needed. Requirements include Grade 9 and related retail experience; fluency in English is preferred.

• Grade 9 or acceptable combination of education and experience.
• Related retail experience, including the provision of customer service.

Responsibilities

• Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of questions, comments, requests and complaints.
• Performs grocery utility functions including stocking, building displays and facing in an organized manner; maintains display presentation and stock levels.
• Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizes damages and markdowns; provides substitutions and ensures price integrity.
• Performs general cleanup duties and keeps sales floor and back stock area clean.
• Follows Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies.
• Causes proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment; reports repair requirements.
• Manages purchasing and receiving, including reviewing invoices and transfers.
• Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.
• Assists in other departments as required and trains others in Grocery Utility Clerk duties.

The Grocery Utility Clerk is responsible to ensure customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to Company policies, procedures and standards. TheGrocery Clerkposition reports directly to the Grocery Supervisor/Grocery Manager, and the main responsibilities include;

• Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through the proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints. Effectively works in a diverse team environment in a proficient and friendly manner.

• Performs all aspects of the Grocery Utility functions including but not limited to stocking, building displays and facing an efficient and organized manner. Ensures display presentation and stock levels are maintained in all areas including but not limited to dairy, freezer, grocery and warehouse.

• Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns. Provides substitutions and ensures price integrity including price changes.

• Performs general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures to ensure neat and organized department. Responsible for keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean from cardboard and debris, as well as disposal of garbage.

• Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.

• Ensures the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools. Reports repair requirements to the Grocery Supervisor, Manager or Duty Manager.

• Responsible for all aspects of ordering merchandise and supplies.

• Responsible for all aspects of receiving including reviewing / verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims and proper storage of products.

• Assists in organizing and conducting inventory.

• Assumes additional related responsibilities including assisting in other departments as required and training others to do the Grocery Utility Clerk job
