Summary of Job Duties : Graduate assistants will perform duties related to their degree and future profession, including conducting ensembles, teaching methods courses, teaching applied lessons, or other duties as needed by the Division of Music. The position is a 12-month appointment aimed at completing a one-year master's degree in jazz studies. They may also participate in various ensembles as required.

Qualifications

• The applicant must have completed the requirements for a baccalaureate degree prior to enrolling in the first graduate class and have gained admission to the Graduate School at UAM or elsewhere.
• Must have a Bachelor of Music Degree or at least 18 credit hours in performance, education, or jazz (instruments include saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, drum set, and voice).
• Competency on at least one listed instrument will be determined by faculty.
• Must provide recordings of two contrasting jazz tunes with head and improvisation, specific jazz scales / modes, and a jazz tune of choice with head and improvisation.
• Must submit a letter of intent, CV, and contact information for three references. Additional interviews or credential reviews may be required.
• Must sign a contract outlining the assistantship duration, stipend, hours, and duties. Additional paperwork may be required before appointment.
• Additional orientation sessions may be required.

Additional Information

Graduate assistants will perform duties relevant to their degree, including conducting ensembles, teaching courses, and lessons. They should demonstrate organization, time management, and self-direction.
