Job summary

Option Excavating Inc. is a locally owned contractor specializing in underground infrastructure. We seek a Grademan-Topman to join our team for field grading, reading blueprints, and coordinating with operators to maintain correct grades on site near Grand Prairie, Alberta.

Candidates should have strong safety records and English communication skills. Excellent wages with overtime, health coverage, RRSP matching, and company training are provided; own transportation required to travel to job

Qualifications

• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
• Construction and excavation: 5 years (preferred).
• Must have CSTS2020 and Ground disturbance level 2 certificate.
• Hard working, positive attitude & willingness to learn.
• Desire to complete tasks on time.
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
• Ability to operate required equipment safely and responsibly.
• Time management skills.
• Ability to read specifications, blueprints, and as-builds.
• Can adapt to changing circumstances.
• Respect diversity – treat others with respect.

Responsibilities

• Shoot grades and keep pipelayer on grade; build roads and slab prep.
• Read blueprints and interpret grade stakes.
• Direct equipment operators to adjust grade by moving earth and materials.
• Assist with maintenance and preventative maintenance of equipment.
• Follow safety regulations, policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate safe work practices on contaminated sites or trenches.
• Understand ground disturbance issues and safe work practices.
• Promote safety culture and conduct toolbox talks.
• Complete daily records, logs, and schedules.
• Carry out minor equipment maintenance and inspections.
• Follow grade marks and communicate with supervisor on operational needs.
