Job summary

Thompson Construction Group is seeking Grader Operators to support heavy civil construction in the Fort McMurray area. You will safely operate graders, follow grade stakes, perform checks, and work with site teams to ensure safety and efficiency.

Key duties include road work, ditching, and experiencing with GPS-enabled Caterpillar graders. Candidates need 3+ years of grader experience, a Class 5 license, and willingness to live in remote camps on rotation.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of grader operation in heavy civil construction, earthworks, or mining.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Willingness to work in Fort McMurray and reside in remote camps on rotation.
• CSO certification or related safety training is an asset.

Job description

Thompson Construction Group has current openings for Grader Operators supporting operations in the Fort McMurray area. This role involves operating graders safely and efficiently within active construction and earthworks environments while maintaining high standards of safety, communication, and equipment care.

Responsibilities:

• Operate graders for road building, haul road maintenance, ditching, sloping, scarifying, ripping, and embankment support


• Read and interpret grade stakes and site requirements as needed


• Operate Caterpillar graders (H and M series), with or without GPS control


• Perform pre-operational and routine equipment inspections prior to use


• Follow direction from supervisors regarding work areas and daily tasks


• Maintain awareness of ground disturbance requirements and underground utilities


• Operate equipment in accordance with company policies, procedures, and safe work practices


• Participate in site safety meetings and safety programs


• Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, and equipment concerns


• Report incidents, near misses, and equipment damage to site supervision


• Communicate effectively with supervisors, spotters, and other operators


• Assist with general site duties as required


• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Minimum 3 years of experience operating graders in heavy civil construction, earthworks, or mining environments


• Minimum 18 years of age


• Valid Class 5 driver’s license


• Ability to work effectively in a team environment


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Willingness to work in the Fort McMurray area and reside in remote camps on a rotational schedule


• CSO certification


• Ground Disturbance, H2S Alive, and First Aid considered assets


• Physically capable of performing assigned duties


• Dependable and reliable attendance


• Ability to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test


• Some of the sites are fly in fly out from our Calgary and Edmonton hubs.
