Job summary

Thompson Construction Group is seeking skilled Dozer Operators to support projects in the Fort McMurray area. You will operate dozers safely, read site plans, and perform pre-start inspections while maintaining safety and equipment care.

Role requires 3+ years of dozer experience in heavy civil or mining settings, a valid Class 5 license, and willingness to live in remote camps on a rotational schedule. CSO certification is required; FCO assets welcome.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience operating dozers in heavy civil construction, earthworks, or mining.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • Willing to reside in remote camps on rotational schedule in Fort McMurray area.
  • CSO certification required; Ground Disturbance, H2S Alive, and First Aid are assets.

  • Operate dozers for ditching, sloping, ripping, and excavation support.
  • Read grade stakes and site plans as required.
  • Perform pre-operational and routine equipment inspections before use.
  • Follow supervisor directions on tasks and areas.
  • Maintain awareness of ground disturbance and underground utilities.
  • Operate in accordance with policies and safe work practices.
  • Participate in site safety meetings and programs.
  • Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions and equipment concerns.
  • Report incidents and near misses to supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, spotters, and other operators.
  • Assist with general site duties as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Thompson Construction Group has current openings for Dozer Operators supporting operations in the Fort McMurray area. This role involves operating dozers safely and efficiently within active construction and earthworks environments while maintaining high standards of safety, communication, and equipment care.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate dozers for tasks including ditching, sloping, ripping, and excavation support
  • Read and interpret grade stakes and site plans as required
  • Perform pre-operational and routine equipment inspections prior to use
  • Follow direction from supervisors regarding work areas and daily tasks
  • Maintain awareness of ground disturbance requirements and underground utilities
  • Operate equipment in accordance with company policies, procedures, and safe work practices
  • Participate in site safety meetings and safety programs
  • Identify and report hazards, unsafe conditions, and equipment concerns
  • Report incidents, near misses, and equipment damage to site supervision
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, spotters, and other operators
  • Assist with general site duties as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating dozers in heavy civil construction, earthworks, or mining environment
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work in the Fort McMurray area and reside in remote camps on a rotational schedule
  • Some sites have fly in fly out from our Calgary and Edmonton hubs.
  • CSO certification required
  • Ground Disturbance, H2S Alive, and First Aid considered assets
  • GPS experience (Topcon / Trimble) considered an asset
  • Physically capable of performing assigned duties
  • Ability to pass a pre-access drug and alcohol test
  • Some of the sites are fly in fly out from our Calgary and Edmonton hubs.
