Job summary

Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) in Ottawa seeks a Government Relations Coordinator to provide administrative and event support to the Advocacy team. You will assist with research, projects, and coordination with stakeholders to address evolving policy issues.

This on-site role requires 1–2 years in an association or government setting, strong MS Office skills, and bilingual English/French. Occasional evenings/weekends and four days on-site at CREA’s office are expected.

Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree; related field preferred.
  • 1–2 years of work experience in an association or federal government environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to organize and maintain files, records and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; multi-priority handling.
  • Bilingual English and French.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and coordination support to the Government Relations team.
  • Prepare, format and distribute correspondence, reports, notices, agendas and minutes.
  • Schedule conference calls and meetings; coordinate related logistics.
  • Establish and maintain departmental files, records and documentation.
  • Support research on legislation, regulations and public policy developments affecting real estate.
  • Coordinate election-related activities and PAC Days event logistics.
  • Respond to enquiries from CREA staff, REALTOR® members and the public.

Salary Range: $60,000.00 To $70,000.00 Annually

Reports To: Manager, Government Relations

Duration: Six (6) Months Contract

Position Overview

The Government Relations Coordinator provides administrative and event support to the CREA Advocacy team. They may additionally be required to conduct research, help with special projects and work with stakeholders to support the team in addressing the evolving list of active policy issues.

Key Responsibilities
Administrative and Team Support
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to the Government Relations team.
  • Prepare, format and distribute correspondence, reports, meeting notices, agendas, minutes and other materials.
  • Schedule conference calls and meetings and coordinate related logistics.
  • Establish and maintain departmental files, records and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Policy Research and Monitoring
  • Conduct research and provide analysis on legislation, regulations and public policy developments affecting the real estate sector and homebuyers.
  • Monitor ongoing government policy and program developments related to the real estate industry and share relevant updates with the Government Relations team.
  • Monitor Parliamentary business including Question Period and Committees and report on relevant developments.
Special Projects and Event Coordination
  • Support the coordination of election-related activities during federal election campaigns.
  • Provide on-site coordination during the annual PAC Days conference, including supporting the Government Relations booth, assisting members and coordinating meetings.
  • Contact Members of Parliament’s offices to schedule PAC Days meetings.
Stakeholder Support
  • Respond to enquiries from Boards and Associations, CREA staff, REALTOR® members and the general public, directing questions to the appropriate team member when required.
  • Undertake other projects and duties as assigned by the Director, Government Relations or Vice-President, Advocacy.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
  • College diploma or university degree, preferably in political science, public policy, public administration or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of work experience in an association or federal government environment.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to organize and maintain files, records and documentation.
Soft Skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • Flexible and cooperative, with the ability to take initiative.
Assets
  • Experience with document management or filing systems.
  • Bilingualism in English and French.

Additional requirement: Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, as required.

Note: This position requires 4 (four) days on site at CREA’s office in Ottawa.
