Job summary

Magna Exteriors in Canada is seeking a Tool Designer to advance cost-focused tooling programs for exterior automotive components. You will develop new cost models, analyze quotes, and collaborate with suppliers on RFQs and tooling strategies.

The role requires extensive mold design experience, CAD proficiency, and strong MS Office skills, including Excel and VBA. A Bachelor’s degree and tooling experience are essential for success in this demanding environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years Tool Designer experience or equivalent.
  • Toolmaker Certificate is an asset.
  • Extensive mold design experience with large tooling.
  • Proficient in CAD and 3D modeling for tooling.
  • Understanding of injection mold and RIM molding processes.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office and Excel (incl. VBA).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cost analysis to compare estimates vs actuals across product lines.
  • Continuously evaluate market trends to set pricing and value.
  • Create and maintain tooling matrices for price comparison and cost walks.
  • Develop and issue Global RFQs to strategic tooling partners.
  • Develop objectives aligned to business plan priorities.
  • Develop conceptual tool layouts from part data and sketches.
  • Develop new cost models for future product lines.
  • Communicate tool concerns and options with stakeholders clearly.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive analysis comparing quotes and hours.
  • Provide trends and insights to help management reduce costs.
