Job summary

Mecka AI is seeking a Privacy Counsel and Data Protection Officer to own the privacy programme across all markets. You will ensure consent standards, cross-border transfer frameworks, and data protection registrations are maintained, while guiding engineering and operations on privacy by design and data minimization.

The role requires advising on compliance globally, managing outside counsel, and acting as the point of contact for data subjects and regulators.

Qualifications

• Law degree and admission to practice in at least one jurisdiction.
• 5 to 8+ years of privacy and data protection experience at top-tier firms and in-house at a tech/data company.
• Proven ability to perform the DPO function independently and communicate with senior management and regulators.
• Hands-on multi-jurisdiction experience: consent, cross-border transfers, DPIAs, data breach response, regulator registrations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and evolve the privacy programme across markets and capture models.
• Advise on applicable data protection requirements; monitor compliance and act as point of contact for data subjects and regulators.
• Lead cross-border data transfer mechanisms and regulator registrations for each entity.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, security, and quality on privacy by design and data minimization.
• Manage outside privacy counsel with clear scopes and budgets; lead incident response and data subject requests.
