Job summary

Spellbook, the leading AI copilot for transactional lawyers, is seeking a Senior People Partner in the Greater Toronto Area to scale a distributed team. You will partner with the Director of People to implement strategy while handling day-to-day People operations across multiple jurisdictions.

The role requires hands-on leadership in employee relations, analytics, compensation, performance management, and engagement, with a bias toward using AI to automate tasks and improve processes.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in People Operations, HR Generalist, HRBP or similar role in a high-growth environment.
• Strong understanding of global employment law, compliance, and best practices.
• Forward-thinking, independent, adaptable and tech-savvy to create efficiencies.
• Comfort with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude Cowork) to support data-driven decisions.
• Discretion with sensitive issues and a commitment to confidentiality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, proactive problem solving, and organization.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a trusted point of contact for employees; resolve workplace issues with empathy.
• Track People metrics to surface trends and inform decisions.
• Own compensation, benefits, and rewards programs in partnership with Talent.
• Drive performance review cycles; set goals and guide development conversations.
• Coordinate initiatives to gather employee feedback and improve engagement.
• Manage employee lifecycle across onboarding, offboarding, relocations, immigration and leave.
