Job Description

As a Manager, you will work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. Your role is essential in working with our clients to uphold compliance with tax regulations while optimizing tax processes for their employees on international assignments. This position is key in handling the tax consequences of global mobility and facilitating a smooth transition for employees across different countries. Your main objective is to reduce tax-related risks and costs, while ensuring that both the organization and its employees adhere to relevant tax laws.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately review and sign tax returns and related deliverables for globally mobile employees within designated deadlines.
  • Offer specialized advice and strategic recommendations to clients regarding tax planning, withholding responsibilities, and social security contributions.
  • Work in tandem with clients’ finance and HR departments to ensure precise calculation and reporting of payroll taxes and social security contributions.
  • Offer specialized tax advice on assignment structures, leveraging tax treaties, and identifying tax-efficient benefits.
  • Educate and counsel employees on their tax responsibilities and the potential implications of international assignments.
  • Provide guidance on tax equalization and protection policies to employees, ensuring clear understanding and compliance.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments in international tax laws and regulations and discuss relevant changes with clients providing advice on the impact to their business and meaningful recommendations.
  • Interact with other service lines within the business to identify cross-functional issues and collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (“SMEs”) for integrated solutions.
  • Conduct in-depth research on country-specific tax issues, particularly in areas where the organization operates.
  • Collaborate with clients to implement global mobility tax strategies minimizing liabilities for both the company and the employee.
  • Recognize and actively seek out new business prospects within the existing client base, gained through a deep understanding of their changing requirements.
  • Work to expand the client portfolio and nurture existing client relationships to drive revenue growth.
  • Analyze market trends and the competitive landscape to identify potential growth areas and opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge and / or success in Canadian & US individual tax planning for employee cross-border movement, including foreign national and expatriate issues, foreign tax compliance, and the tax equalization process, managing international assignee populations of multinational clients while leveraging a worldwide network.
  • Strong understanding of individual tax compliance, tax planning, and expatriate tax program policy and administration design, with experience in identifying and addressing client needs.
  • Experience leading client discussions and meetings, communicating a broad range of services.
  • Experience managing resource requirements, project workflow, budgets, billing, and collections, and preparing or coordinating complex materials.
  • Ability to create a positive environment by monitoring workloads and respecting work-life balance of team members.
  • Providing candid, timely feedback; keeping leadership informed of progress and issues.
  • Knowledge of automation and digitization in a professional services environment, including working with large data sets and leveraging data visualization tools.
  • Exposure to pricing, client value, and negotiation processes, including reviewing contracts and introducing new pricing options.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
