Job summary

Scotiabank seeks a Manager to research and develop IFRS accounting policies and their implementation across the Bank. You will analyze standards, resolve complex issues, and advise on specialized transactions, staying current with IFRS and related changes.

You will work with multiple departments, communicate implications, train users, and support senior management on new accounting standards and disclosures in financial statements and MD&A.

Qualifications

• Canadian CPA designation required.
• Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects/initiatives at any given time.
• Ability to research and understand a vast body of complex material efficiently and productively to produce accurate results and present alternatives.
• Ability to help business lines implement complex accounting requirements.
• Solid financial acumen and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Accuracy and attention to detail while working under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
• Superior communication skills, both orally and in written memos and other forms of communication.
• Good interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships with a variety of business partners in cross-functional teams.
• Must be a team player with the willingness to take on additional projects and responsibilities to achieve the group's overall objectives and goals.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to learn and utilize other reporting tools to extract and present information from the Bank's accounting records.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop IFRS accounting policies and implementation guidelines across the Bank.
• Analyze impact of new accounting standards and provide alternatives and recommendations.
• Communicate implications of standards to other departments and define roles for implementation.
• Keep senior management up-to-date on IFRS implications for Bank transactions.
• Identify and research accounting issues and recommend changes aligned with Bank priorities.
• Provide timely analyses for proposed, specialized transactions with well-documented summaries.
• Maintain and update IFRS policies and provide user training as needed.
• Participate in development and interpretation of new accounting standards and disclosures in financial statements and MD&A.
